Michigan State guard Tre Holloman made a stunning buzzer-beater from beyond half-court to lead the No. 8 Spartans to a 58-55 victory against No. 16 Maryland on Wednesday evening. The unbelievable shot silenced the Terrapins’ home crowd after Maryland had come back from a 7-point deficit with less than three minutes left to equalize the score.
The Terrapins (21-6, 11-6 Big ten) secured a stop with under 10 seconds remaining and the score tied at 55. However, without a timeout, they were compelled into a frantic possession. During this sequence, Ja’Kobi Gillespie attempted a contested three-pointer with nearly five seconds left that fell short.
Jaxon Kohler grabbed the rebound and passed it to Holloman, who took one dribble before launching an off-balance shot from behind the “M” logo in XFINITY Center. The junior guard was swarmed by his teammates as the Spartans (23-5, 14-3) celebrated their third consecutive win over a ranked team.
