SymbyAI, a software-as-a-service platform leveraging AI to enhance scientific research, has secured a $2.1 million seed round with contributions from Force Capital and CharacterVC, among others.
Founded just over a year ago by Ashia Livaudais and Michael Home, the platform provides organized environments for researchers to access papers, code, data, and experiences all in one location. It aids in tracking progress and features an AI tool that supports literature review and replication efforts.
“it’s vital to note that SymbyAI is built on a proprietary AI framework, so users need not worry about unintentionally sharing sensitive details with OpenAI or Anthropic or any other entity,” Livaudais shared with TechCrunch. The intellectual property of the researchers remains theirs and is not utilized to develop SymbyAI’s foundational technologies.
Livaudais explained that she initiated the company after experiencing firsthand the outdated processes involved in reviewing and advancing scientific work.
“The concept for Symby was conceived while I was developing a solution to a challenge I faced daily, realizing my peers in the research community were also seeking answers to similar issues,” she stated. “Once we discovered we could effectively reduce significant research timelines from months down to hours, demand for a productized version began emerging from nearly every finding discussion I had.”
SymbyAI collaborates with academic publishers, research institutions, and universities. Livaudais noted that she connected with her investors by participating in the gBeta program as part of gener8tor. Through this program,Livaudais met her initial investors including Antler which took an early chance on Symby by investing during its pre-seed round as well.
The company now intends to utilize the new seed funding to further develop its operations and establish initial partnerships.
