Millie, a maternity clinic based in California and established by Anu Sharma, has revealed the triumphant acquisition of $12 million in Series A funding from investors including RH Capital, TMV, and Melinda French Gates’ Pivotal ventures.
Sharma was motivated to create the business following her daughter’s birth in 2019. she experienced complications during her pregnancy and, being the child of a physician, was able to recognize certain symptoms that were overlooked by healthcare professionals. This experience inspired her to establish a maternity clinic — one she wished she had access to during her own childbirth.
The outcome is Millie, which commenced operations in 2022. It provides maternity and gynecological services along with postpartum support, mental health assistance, and nutritional guidance. The clinic collaborates with all major insurance providers and offers both in-person and virtual support through a technological platform that includes patient monitoring tools. Other competitors in this sector are Quilted Health and Oula.
“What distinguishes Millie is our hybrid approach that integrates face-to-face care at our clinics with virtual consultations, remote monitoring capabilities, and an exclusive app,” Sharma told TechCrunch. “We achieve this through an environmentally enduring model increasingly driven by AI-enhanced workflows while partnering with payors and healthcare system collaborators.”
Millie’s cap table consists entirely of female-led firms. The company has raised nearly $19 million thus far and plans to utilize the new funds to broaden its physical presence throughout California as well as enhance its technology offerings. Additionally, it aims to expand its network of healthcare partners.
