ANew Mexico adult infected with measles has passed away, state authorities reported on Thursday. The death occurred eight days after an unvaccinatedchild from Texas died, due to the illness amidst an escalating outbreak within the state that has affected nearly160 individuals. The adult had not received vaccinations and did not seek medical assistance prior to passing away; though, the cause of death remains under investigation.
“We do not want New mexicans falling ill or succumbing to measles,” stated Dr.Chad Smelser,deputy state epidemiologist.
“The MMR vaccine is the most effective safeguard against this severe illness.”
