Perplexity, the creator of an AI-driven search platform, is securing a $50 million seed and pre-seed funding round, as reported by CNBC. Although most of the funds are sourced from shrimp partners, Perplexity is allocating a portion of the capital it has gathered to support the fund’s establishment. It has been reported that Perplexity raised $500 million at a valuation of $9 billion in December.
the fund managed by Perplexity is overseen by established partners Kelly Graziadei and Joanna Lee Shevelenko, who co-founded an early-stage venture firm called F7 Ventures in 2018, according to PitchBook data. F7 has made investments in startups such as the women’s health company midi. It remains unclear whether Graziadei and Shevelenko will continue to manage F7 or if they will concentrate entirely on Perplexity’s venture fund.
OpenAI also oversees an investment initiative known as the OpenAI Startup Fund. Tho, unlike Perplexity, OpenAI asserts that itwill not utilize its own funds for these investments.
