this week, Google co-founder sergey Brin sent a memo to employees encouraging them to return to the headquarters “at least every weekday” in person to help the company excel in the AGI competition, The New York Times reports. Brin mentioned that a 60-hour workweek is an “ideal zone” for productivity.
Although Brin’s memo does not serve as an official policy change for Google, which mandates employees to be on-site three days a week, it highlights the pressure that major Silicon Valley firms are under to stay competitive in AI. the memo also suggests that Brin has confidence in GoogleS potential to develop AGI, an advanced AI system comparable to human intellect.
Brin has reportedly returned to Google recently to help the company regain its position in the AI race. Google was taken aback by OpenAI’s 2022 launch of ChatGPT but has been working hard to catch up with new leading AI models of its own.
